How we started

We met online on Hinge (a dating app) in the Summer of 2021. Clarence matched with Ying. After days of talking on the app, we finally had our first date at Common Space Brewery.


We bonded through beer, burgers, Korean barbecue. We planned our first camping trip together and kept going from there.

With last minute planning, we had our first camping trip at Point Mugu State Park. We grilled steaks and had a side of curry. We celebrated 4th of July with a parade through the campground.

Ying had planned to hike up Mount Whitney, highest peak in the lower 48 states, prior to meeting Clarence. Clarence joined in on the trek to the top. This was our first attempt to hike up Mount Whitney. We did not summit because of the bad air quality from the wildfires in Lake Tahoe. It was an aborted mission but we were eager to return.

Ying had planned to hike up Mount Whitney, highest peak in the lower 48 states, prior to meeting Clarence. Clarence joined in on the trek to the top. We packed our weekends and saw lanterns light up the sky at the Rise Festival in Las Vegas.

Ying had planned to run the San Diego marathon prior to meeting Clarence. Clarence, again, took on the challenge and ran his first marathon. Ying's 6th and Clarence's first marathon. In maintaining our physical fitness, we started a tradition of running a marathon every year together. San Diego's Rock and Roll Marathon 2021 was what started it all.

We started training for our second attempt to summit Mount Whitney. Backpacking to and camping on top of Mount Gorgonio was our 6th training hike. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset and sunrise.

Yes, we climbed up Half Dome. With its scary cliff drops and narrow rope climb, Half Dome in Yosemite was one of the toughest hikes we've done together. We can't explain the feeling of finally making it to the top. We were guided by a full moon and greeted by a bear on the trail. It was a truly beautiful experience.

We can't explain the feeling of finally making it to the top. We were guided by a full moon and greeted by a bear on the trail. It was a truly beautiful experience.
WE FINALLY DID IT!!! After many months of grueling training, we summited Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 states.

We decided to run marathons in other cities. We crossed the finish line in our second marathon together in Portland, Oregon. We celebrated our accomplishment with Portland's own Salt and Straw.

We went back to Yosemite in 2023 in attempt to catch Firefall. Mother Nature was on our side. We fought through the crowd and witnessed the magnificence of Firefall.

For Memorial Day weekend, we purchased an annual fishing license and camped in Sequoia National Park with the intention of catching fish. We were so confident that we will catch a lot of fish. They didn't bite and we left empty-handed. Not a bad start for our first fishing trip :')

We took on the rigors of biking and running and completed our first biathlon in Long Beach. 18-mile bike and 13-mile run.

We ran our 3rd marathon together in Philadelphia. After crossing the finish line we ran up Rocky Balboa's stairs. We spent the rest of the week traveling to upstate New York and New York City.
